Meeting With the Surgeon

Today we met with a pediatric neuro surgeon who we were referred to after Katie noticed Walker's head lacking a significant soft spot and our pediatrician agreeing that a specialist should look at it.  Gabe and I were feeling pretty confident in the beginning of the meeting that the doctor was going to tell us we were worried for nothing and we'd be on our way.  We answered no to all the family history questions and all our health evaluations seemed to be lining us up for a quick departure...well as soon as he was done asking us questions he told us that yes, Walker does have a skull abnormality and he was 100% sure of it, so sure that he didn't need an MRI to confirm it...he walked us through the procedure that would involve blood transfusions, a four hour surgery, and an ear to ear zig zag scar across the top of his head.  We were left with a diagnosis of sagittal synostotis, which means premature closing of the back soft spot, and a tentative surgery date come the new year.
