I'm not Chick

Little Guy got a new balance bike today and it's green....and fast....I asked if I could call him "Chick" (from Cars) and he said, " I'm not Chick. I'm not Lightning McQueen. I'm Wesley Simon Detar"... Oh sweet boy, you are certainly your own little person.

College Roomies Make the Best Out of Town Visitors

We had house guests this weekend, and it was AWESOME!!!  My college roommate called on a whim to see if we'd be around and up for visitors- I told her of course, but warned her we didn't have any extra bedrooms, just extra space in our now vacant living room...always being up for a challenge and a good time, Lisa thought those arrangements sounded perfect and they made the eight hour trek up from LA...we could not have had more fun even with the rain and gloomy weather.  Aubrey had never really seen a lot of rain (SoCal baby) and we had never met Charlotte.  Charlotte ended up really under the weather with a possible cold and about 8 teeth coming in, but she hung strong and Little Guy and Aubrey had a blast together.  Aubrey was so excited to be doing a sleep over and Little Guy kept requesting to see his "best friend, that guy Aubrey"...I love that Lisa and I have been friends for 14 years now (aek we're old!), have known each other's husbands for as long or close to, and are now making it a point for a kids to know each other! Life can get so crazy and hectic and before you know it years have gone by since you last saw someone, so I really appreciate our friendship.  We can't wait for a possible summertime rendez-vous and we're hoping to make it down there to see the new house and hit up the beach this fall.  Here's to impromptu reunions and friendships that last a lifetime.

Happy birthday

I officially started  birthday celebrations with dessert and family presents on Easter ( we got the birthday week started since my parents were going to be out of town on the real day), continued celebrating with a girls night with Heather, Cari, homemade marshmallow fluff, and wine (it was a GREAT way to spend a Wednesday night), and then spend the real day with my boys hanging out.  I ran off for a quick pedicure during morning naps and then Daddy met me with the boys for lunch.  Mr. Wyatt Bear wore sandals for the first time- they were Little Guy's first shoe and I don't know what it is, but these Boa sandals just melt me heart!!  We rode the merry-go-round and snacked on Amici's before coming home for naps for everyone.  We finished up the day with dinner at Mary's and Auntie and Peyton joined us to help celebrate.  It was a perfectly relaxing day, just like what I had asked for.

Crawling

Some how my baby grew up...he has been doing the army crawl for some time now, but he's decided to join the big leagues and start crawling, like for real crawling...oh Mr. Wyatt Bear, all I can say is "Slow Down!!!"

Hoppy Easter

We hosted Easter brunch here for our family and friends and what a fun day it was!  Our morning started with a visit from the Easter bunny who left wonderful gifts for the boys.  Mr. Wyatt Bear's first Easter basket was a huge success!  We missed Luke and Kim at brunch this year, but we still had a very full table with Schroeder clan joining in the celebration!  An egg hunt followed by hot tubing was the perfect way to spend our Sunday.  Here are a few shots of the day...Mr. Wyatt Bear had a moment during some of the group shots...

Practice Makes Perfect

Auntie Heather was so sweet to host us for dinner tonight so we didn't have to dirty our kitchen before hosting Easter brunch tomorrow.  We were spoiled with ribs, chicken, salad, and ice cream sandwiches for dessert, PLUS a practice Easter egg hunt for the boys.  Little Guy is ALWAYS up for a play date with Jackson and I ALWAYS love any reason to hang with my bestie AND not have to cook dinner!

Eggciting Times

Today we dyed Easter eggs for the first time.  We haven't done it in the past because Little Guy has been, well, too little, but I decided to go for it this year.  Daddy was working up until bedtime so he wasn't able to join in the fun, but truth be told he didn't miss much.  Little Guy loved the idea of dying eggs and was all for dunking it in the dye, but he lost all interest as he waited while the egg soaked and after three eggs he was playing trains.  Mr. Wyatt Bear and I finished them up and we can't wait to hide them on Sunday!

Cabin Fever

We headed up to the mountains this week for a little R&R at Grandma and Papa's cabin.  We timed our drive just right for the boys to take naps on the way up...Mr. Wyatt Bear was too entertained by his brother to sleep and Little Guy dozed off at the Truckee exit...better luck with timing next time.  Little Guy was in heaven to be running around outside, fishing with Daddy, hunting pine cones with Grandma and seeking out the small piles of snow that remained from a very dry winter...We enjoyed a few hands of cribbage and some fresh mountain air.  It was a great mini vacay to kick off the extended Easter weekend.

Visiting Old Friends

We've been in Pleasant Hill the past two days for some great play dates...We started with a play date with my kindergarten friend Shannon, her two littles plus her sweet girl ready to make her worldly debut any day now- Shannon and I met the first day of kindergarten when our daddies were the two guys video tapping every moment of our first school experience.  We've been friends ever since and it's always a great time catching up.  We had a rough night of sleep after such a great day, but we rallied the next morning for a play date with Alisha and two of her four littles.  Miss Vera is just three months old and still smells of deliciousness new baby.  Little Guy and Emerson played like they were old friends and the mommies had some quality visiting time.  Alisha and I met in middle school, but come to find out our moms had been friends since elementary school and had just lost touch, so it was a rekindled friendship for everyone!  We headed home to try and take naps in our own beds, but of course my boys have decided it's much more fun to laugh and giggle together in the car than it is to sleep...sleeping in the car is becoming a pipe dream these days.  After no morning nap for Mr. Wyatt Bear and boycotted afternoon naps for everyone, it was early to bed...like 6 and 6:30 early, with no protesting from anyone.  Daddy surprised me with take out from one of our favorite local restaurants and I decided to finish up these two crazy, sleep deprived days with a visit to the brand new Krispy Kreme- Heather met me and it was a divine way to end a Tuesday.

Bike Rides and Good Nights

We had our first bike ride of the season today and Mr. Wyatt Bear's first bike ride of his life!  He was very opposed to his helmet at first, but once Daddy started pedaling he was all smiles.  Little Guy was very excited to get back on the bike, he thought it was great fun that we were "racing".  We met up the Schroeders for an impromptu park play date, dinner, and then home for bed.  Bedtime went as usual until the end...Little Guy always requests that I hold his hand for two minutes.  I never mind this, it's a sweet quiet time that I cherish with him...well this time, after I let go and got ready to leave, he called me back to check on his band aid, and after I checked on his band aid, he pulled me down for a long hug...then a second hug, a round of I love you, I love you more, and Little Guy finishing it off with "the most, and when I stood up, a "Thank you mama, good night"...it was just the most precious, kind, gentle good night that I could have ever imagined...

Visits and Vacuums

Today we want to visit Gigi at her new classroom. It was very fancy and Little Guy was in heaven with all the trains and toys. I was in love with my boys' matching neon shorts and collared shirts, I wish I had snapped a picture. After school the boys went to play at Gigi's and I went to buy a vacuum...the same vacuum used in the White House...we decided if it's good enough for Obama, it must be awesome! I am in love with it already! After that exciting purchase we popped over for a visit to see Papa at work and then we were on our way home. Phew, what a fast and successful morning trip we had!

My Best Friends

Today I videoed when I asked Little Guy who his best friend was...and he answered "Baby Wyatt Bear"...you can hear me choke up when I repeat "Baby Wyatt Bear is your best friend"...then he goes on to say "And Oddball and Neigh Neigh"...I recap that Baby Wyatt Bear, Oddball, and Neigh Neigh are his best friends and then he says "And Mama"..."Wesley loves Mama so much"....and my heart melted.

Chest Xrays

We were back in the doctor's office today for Mr. Wyatt Bear...he's taking to vomiting in the middle of the night after his coughing attack.  There was enough cause for concern that our doctor wanted us to come in.  Daddy was able to make it and it was nice to have the second set of hands since we had to have chest xrays done- let me just say in Mr. Wyatt Bear's short nine months, chest xraying may have been the saddest thing I have had to watch him endure.  They put him on a little stool, held his arms over his head and strapped a plastic cylinder around his body to keep his arms from coming down.  He hated it and they had me stand by him to help comfort him but that just made him even more mad since I wasn't doing anything to help him...fast forward past gymnastics and afternoon naps and the xray was deemed clean and we are proceeding with our two different inhalers, antibiotics, and allergy meds...Dr. Walker thinks we could dealing with intense allergies and asthma so we're hitting it hard and hoping to get him cleared up SOON!

Ranching with Daddy

We had a BBQ out at the ranch today, complete with cowboy hats, four wheelers, a jack rabbit, hundreds of cows, and some great friends.  Little Guy was a little timid at first, but by the time we were packing up for naps, he was a wild man racing around the four wheelers with Papa Cliff.  He sported his cowboy hat for a little while, but ultimately preferred his red baseball hat with the sun protecting neck flap (he rocks it, it's not dorky at all)- the photos with the cow shirt and the cowboy hat are TDF.  Thanks Daddy for letting us spend the day with you and you preggo heifers.
