Cha Milk

Little Guy is OBSESSED with cha milk (chocolate milk for all us folk who like to fully enunciate all our words)...even if it's plain old boring white milk, he calls it cha milk.  Today he wanted to play a little version of store, which was precious in its own right since that was the first time he's asked me to play make believe with him, and he wanted Baby Wyatt to participate.  He wants Baby Wyatt to participate in EVERYTHING...I told Gabe tonight I am not sure when the novelty will wear off, but I am sucking every last breath out of it- if I want Little Guy in the bath, I only have to mention brother getting in the bath too and he's all in...if I need him to eat more dinner, I just have to prop up brother and ask Little Guy to show brother how to eat his chicken and Little Guy is more than happy to perform!  I love seeing Little Guy so excited to play with his brother so I rarely stop him from trying to include Baby Wyatt unless it is something clearly unsafe or uncomfy for our little babe- playing store seemed harmless enough so I just sat back and watched as Little Guy gave Baby Wyatt all the cha milk from his grocery cart, counting them out as he was doing it, then loading up the cart again and repeating this pattern a dozen or so times...he couldn't get enough of it, he lit up every time he announced "Baby cha milk, baby cha milk!!!"  I can only imagine if I get a kick out of watching these little interactions, what I'll be like when Wyatt can play back- don't burst my mommy bubble, I want to believe my boys will LOVE playing together always and when asked who their very bestest friend is, of course they'll say each other, this is the dream living in my mommy heart!

Mama Bear

We had a fun park play date today with our pals Henry and Iris, which included an In-N-Out picnic and PLENTY of running around.  It was also the first time I have wanted to strangle a stranger's kid for hurting my child.  Phoebe and I were watching as the boys were playing together near two other little boys.  Out of nowhere, one little boy starts hitting Henry with a stick...hard...and aggressively.  Henry comes to report the incident and Phoebe tells him to tell the boys he doesn't like that please stop...we'll Henry does just that and is repeating with more urgency "Please stop, I don't like that", while the little boy continues to hit him.  So Henry walks away...and the little boy whips Little Guy across the face with the stick.  I couldn't get there fast enough and took all my restraint to politely inform the little boy we don't hit with sticks- and apparently an adult telling you not to hit with sticks is an invitation to hit my child again.  Between being stunned and hurt, Little Guy took a few seconds and then was screaming.  It was FINALLY at this point, that the little boys' mothers took note of their children.  The mother was mortified, and rightfully so, when she saw the huge red and white welt going across my son's face.  We wrapped up our park play date right about this time, it had been a blast up until the very end!

Blessed

Sundays are quickly becoming my favorite day- we get to see Daddy all day and since we aren't of school age yet and I work at home, we don't have the dreaded Sunday night blues when Monday is on its way in.  We hit up the local park after nap time and Little Guy had a BLAST chasing his daddy over the bridges and down the slides.  My heart just melts when I hear Little Guy belly laugh while his daddy chases him.  Baby Wyatt was happy as a clam to be wrapped up wearing his sun hat.  Later on we did bath night and apparently Baby Wyatt finds the bathtub extra relaxing- he slept through all his brother's splashing and singing!  When you get to round out your day with your two tiny loves all slicked up in pjs and your hubby reading Thomas the Train in an English accent from the over sized nursery glider, you know you're pretty gosh darn blessed!

Katie's Wedding Shower

We celebrated Auntie Katie today with a bridal shower complete with catered lunch, fun how well do you know the bride games, and lots of great gifts to get Mark and Katie ready to start their lives together as husband and wife!  It was really nice to see our family and Mark's family and there were plenty of people there anxious to meet Baby Wyatt for the first time.  Little Guy stayed home with Daddy for the day and got to have a little boy time before having a playdate with Lizzy.  It was a wonderful way to kick of the last 45 days before the big day...are we in crazy wedding countdown mode yet, YIKES!!!

First time swimming

Mr. Wyatt went swimming for the first time today and I think we have another water baby on our hands!  He's always loved his bath (all four or five that he's taken!) but the pool can be another story.  He had a blast ( I am sure of it since he wasn't crying!) floating around with his mama...then his brother decided to show him how he does biiigggg jumps and then Mr. Wyatt decided he had had enough of the water for one day!

Tahoe

UWe took a quick family vacay to Tahoe for the night.  Gabe's grandma rents a lavish house each year and all family heads up for a week.  We haven't made it a whole week in a long time, between babies, pregnancy, and more babies, we always manage a quick trip, but not the whole seven days.  This year we weren't even sure we'd make one night, but a last minute change of schedule let us escape for a quick trip.  It was a blast watching Little Guy play with his second cousins and everyone enjoyed getting to really meet Wyatt and interact with Little Guy.  We had delicious food as always and Little Guy ventured into the lake for the first time.  Next year we'll be spending a whole day at the lake, it wasn't nearly as chilly as I had planned and with sand toys and rafts I think we'd have plenty to do.  Here's Little Guy and Baby Wyatt with their second cousins and GREAT grandma Dorothy.

Quick side story from the trip- I came home by myself with the two boys.  They fell right to sleep and my drive was GREAT...until I came to Colfax and had to use the bathroom...with sleeping babies in the car.  My sister's suggestion was to find a police station so an officer could watch my car while I found a bathroom, but that seemed WAY too time consuming and slightly unnecessary.  I pulled off at McDonald's and Little Guy woke up- he was none to happy and let me know it by rolling on the ground and playing limp noodle while we walked in the parking lot- this makes carrying an infant carseat even easier!  Long story short, the bathroom in McDonald's was under construction so we had to hoof it up the hill to the coffee shop, buy a drink, wait in line, and then once inside the single stall bathroom, Little Guy poured out my whole wallet, rubbed all the credit cards and such on the floor and then laid down while both him and Wyatt screamed bloody murder.  So help me we barely made it home alive and without catching some god only knows gross fungus from the bathroom floor....

Sweet Boys

I just can't believe I get to be the mommy of these sweet amazingly precious little boys.  Little Guy continues to awe us with is love and affection for Baby Wyatt- he wants his brother to watch him do jumps, watch him eat dinner, watch him play ball, lay in his crib, tickle his toes...anything Little Guy can do with the baby, he's in!  As I watch Little Guy grow up, I am constantly trying to savor every minute of Baby Wyatt's newborn phase, I see how fast it goes and even though I am IN LOVE with the toddler phase, I know the sweet newborn smell, the way he fits right on my chest, the all day catnaps, and teeny tiny fingers and toes will be big before I know it.  Little Guy is starting to talk up a storm and go figure the letter that throws him the biggest challenge is W...so he refers to himself as Wrey-Wrey and Wyatt as Baby.  I love trying to decipher what Little Guy is saying and the satisfaction for both of us when he gets what he wants and I was able to help him by listening to his words.  I just can't believe my first baby is old enough to sit and chat with his mommy.

15 days new

We had Mr. Wyatt's two week check up today and we are happy to report he is thriving!  He is back to his birth weight plus two ounces (7.15), right on target with his motor skills and sensory responses, and all together a very healthy baby.  It was nice to have Dr. Walker meet the newest member in our family and we look forward to seeing him again at two months!  Here's a quick glimpse into my morning...yes I really am that lucky to get to spend all day at home with these two amazing loves.  Little Guy requested the photo shoot, he is just becoming more infatuated with Wyatt everyday!
We had our second music class for the summer today and I braved it solo...it went fairly smoothly minus the timing of Wyatt NEEDING to nurse as soon as we started walking in circles which made Little Guy NEED to be carried :) after class we did some playing in the bounce houses- I took Little Guy down the slide once then told him I needed to rest. About 5 minutes later I look at the slide and see him coming down! He had climbed it himself and was just Mr. Independent going up and down all on his own! By the timewe left he was a tired sweaty mess, but that didn't stop him from refusing a nap...not one single second of shut eye! When Gigi came to watch him, he was ready to play (I think delirium set in!). My mom looked just as tired as him by the time we got home....she's quickly learning out active little buddy isn't as docile as he used to be! Dive bombs, wrestling, chase, fetch, and exploring anything and everything keep him and anyone with him VERY BUSY!

Horton Hears A Who

Today we ventured to the movies...on our own...all three of us!  It was our first test of getting out the door with a time sensitive destination and I have to say, we made it!  Auntie Heather had Uncle Chris there plenty early to score us tickets (thank goddness since we weren't running THAT on time!) and then with the help of my stroller, we got all SEVEN of our popcorns and drinks into the theater...Little Guy lasted until the last 15 minutes and Baby Wyatt slept THE ENTIRE TIME, so it was a win win for everyone!  We popped into playgroup afterwards to say and everyone was so excited to meet the new babe!  It was fun for Little Guy to meet up with his buddies after a little hiatus.  We rounded out our day of new found independence with solo bedtime!!  Daddy had to go out to work so it was just mommy and her boys...and we survived!  Daddy certainly makes things easier, but it was nice to find out that if push came to shove, we could do it on our own!

Big Hats

Little Guy cracks us up every day. He is SO expressive and loves anything BIG...big trucks, big dogs, big water (ocean), and today it was big hats...he's already a fan of hats, but what's better than one hat?? How about wearing all your hats in order to make a "big hat"? I couldn't capture the hat at its biggest point since it wasn't really balanced, but you get the idea..."Oh man, big hats!!!"

SIze 1

I ran out of newborn diapers downstairs so I reached for a size 1 just to hold me over until I could get upstairs and guess what...the size 1 wasn't as big as I thought it would be.  Yes, it could stand to be a little smaller, but it certainly was wearable.  How is it that after only 13 days, our little baby is filling out a bigger size diaper???  Stay small little dude, mommy isn't done fawning over your pint size onesies and teeny tiny socks!

Here's a daily dose of cuteness!  My two boys snuggled up close during nap time, it doesn't get much better than this.  It was such a great day- we had our first solo outing to Target and Little Guy spent the whole trip walking hand in hand with me or helping push the cart while his baby brother slept peacefully in the wrap.  I was a proud mama!!!

Wyatt's first bath

We were finally able to bath the baby today. Everything that needed to heal finally did and this stinky boy was ready for a wash down. Little Guy could not have been more excited to have his baby brother in the bath. He was especially excited to help rinse him off, which he decided shouldn't be limited to his feet like I had suggested, but instead poured water on him from head to toe. Sweet Wyatt Bear, you don't stand a chance :)

Welcome Baby Sofia

Alyssa and I have been pregnant together since day one!  Yes, we had the exact same due date and were SO looking forward to overlapping hospital stays!  Well, when I went into labor, she wasn't even close to having her little babe and by the time we were discharged nothing had changed...I even thought one night when I was scouring the halls for a nurse to get my pain meds, that I saw Alyssa pacing the halls as well, but it wasn't her.  We left, sad we missed the Medina Family, but certainly not as sad as Alyssa since she was still pregnant and really really really ready to meet her new baby.  She also chose to not find out the gender and was almost convinced she was having a baby boy...well, finally, 4 days after our due date and 9 days since Baby Wyatt had been born, she gave birth to a sweet precious baby girl!!!!!  We are so excited to welcome baby Sofia Rae into the world and couldn't be happier for Noah to have a new little sister to love on.  Expecting our babies to potentially share birthdays, we weren't planning for a 9 day difference, but now we have boys with birthdays 3 days apart and new babes only 9 days apart...let the play dates begin!

Meeting Auntie Heather

Today Mr. Wyatt got to meet his Auntie Heather!  She was away soaking up the sun in Aruba when he made his grand appearance (he was five days early and she was hoping he would be two days late!) so she's had to rely on photos and texts to get all the good birth details.  The whole Santopadre clan came over so Little Guy was pleased to have three good friends to play with and Auntie Heather got to spend some time holding the newest addition to our ever growing clan of children!  I can't wait for Mr. Wyatt to wear, play with, and enjoy the fine goodies that have been handed down from the Santopadre kiddos- we are one lucky family!

Newborn Photos

We took Mr. Wyatt Bear's newborn photos today...I can't believe we're already doing this!  Before heading out for photos, we needed to stop at the hospital to have his weight checked out...well I should have been weary of the appointment time since I was told it was before the office opened but not to worry someone would be there...we waited and waited and waited before they told us that the nurse we were supposed to see wasn't even coming in that day and they were waiting for someone to arrive to replace her.  Meanwhile, Little Guy had a COMPLETE meltdown in the doctor's office- it was unlike anything I have ever seen him do.   It started over the fact his screen time was done and he still wanted to watch the cats video- usually these bouts of unhappiness are short lived and he's easily redirected...well not this time.  I was literally pacing the halls with him while he just screamed.  He couldn't be consoled by my mom or milk or water or anything.  He was just hysterical...he's been doing so well with the adjustment to the new baby and I think today just set him over the edge.  So, after we were finally called into the doctor's office, they decided that since his weight was not drastically improving, maybe we should continue with daily weight checks....um, no!.  I explained that since my milk had just come in he hadn't really had a chance to eat enough to put weight on, so I wanted to give it a few days of him actively nursing before we started anything drastic (spoiler alert, I was right and he was just fine after my milk came in!).  The good news of the visit was Mr. Wyatt Bear's jaundice finally cleared after too may heal pricks for me to count and too much worry for me to handle!
After our hospital debacle, we still managed to make it to the photo session on time and ready to smile!  We started with photos of just Little Guy, then the two together, then just the babe.  Auntie and Gigi and Peyton came to help out and Sarah had a GIANT bucket of trains that kept Little Guy pretty content while he waited (we may have even stuck a few trains in the basket to help keep him focused on his brother for some to die for photos!).  I can't wait to get Mr. Wyatt Bear's photos up on our wall.

Because no day would be complete without adding one more play date into an already full schedule, we headed over to Kristin's house after naps for a meet and greet with all the new babes.  We have been documenting our pregnancies together and after each baby we take a photo with the still preggo mommies and the new babies.  We were supposed to meet last Tuesday to take the final photo with three mommies and their babies in their arms and one mommy (me) with her baby still in her tummy...well since I was giving birth in the wee hours of the morning last Tuesday, we had to cancel it and take our final photo with both baby Jake and Mr. Wyatt Bear in their mommy's arms...it was so much fun to see all our babes together and to let the big brothers and sisters play together.  I am so excited to watch these kiddos grow up together, playing at all the family parties just like my sister and I did with all of our cousins.

meeting the metchos

Today Baby Wyatt met the Metchos!  Auntie Cari had been DYING to get over and see our sweet boy and with donuts and coffee in hand, she made this morning!  Little Guy was way excited to see his buddy Jack and loved that Mads brought him an Elmo balloon!  We can't wait for Baby Wyatt to get special Metcho cuddles and love, our boys are so lucky to have such wonderful people care about them!

ER Visit

Today we took Mr. Wyatt Bear to the Emergency Room...I didn't handle this well, I was crying while the tech took his vitals.  I just couldn't believe that at 4 days old my baby could maybe need medical attention, the thought alone was enough to send me into a complete panic...I am happy to report that Mr. Wyatt was just fine, nothing to be worried about, but I am so glad we went and put any concerns to rest.  I was a little offended when the check in clerk assumed this was my first baby or at least my first boy since I was such a basket case and bringing him in to the ER...no mam, he's not my first baby, but I'll be damned if he's my first baby to have anything hurt him that I could have prevented... Gigi and Auntie stayed with Little Guy and after a lengthy phone consult between the local ER doc and the pediatric doc on staff in the neighboring town, we were sent on our way with peace of mind, something you can't put a price on for new parents.  Now we just have to get his jaundice in check and we'll be smooth sailing from there!

Today we celebrated our FIFTH wedding anniversary!!!! We also took Wyatt to his follow up appointment, so we made a little date of it and had a celebatory lunch at BJs! I can't believe how fast five years went by! I feel blessed everyday that I get to journey through this crazy life with my husband by my side. Here's to many more adventures, memories, and love!!!!

4th of july

We celebrated Baby Wyatt's first 4th of July and his second day being in the world with a little BBQ at our house.  People said I was crazy for hosting a BBQ TWO days postpartum, but Little Guy was pretty jazzed to have the company and who can ever pass up sparklers!  Our first guest of the day was Uncle Luke!  He stopped by to meet his new nephew and wrestle around with Little Guy.  Next up we had Gigi, Papa, Auntie, Mark, Peyton, Auntie Erin, Uncle Greg, Lizzy, Cary, and Uncle Sam over, phew!  Baby Wyatt was decked out in his patriotic gear so we tried to capture some cute photos...it's tricky to sit in a chair when you're only two days old.  Auntie Erin and Uncle Greg got to meet the babe for the first time and Lizzy Bug is obsessed even more with baby bellies now that Baby Wyatt is here (time to have another one Auntie Erin!).  It was a great low key celebration, and a good way to kick off a busy month!

Just Hours Old

Little Guy came to meet his little brother this morning (just 5 hours old!) and we had him make the announcement to his Gigi, Papa, Grandma, and Grandpa.  He was really excited to bring the balloon out to the waiting room and even more excited with everyone's reaction- I am pretty sure they were shrieking over the excitement of the new baby but Little Guy soaked it all up and there's nothing wrong with that either!  We spent the day in the hospital, working on nursing and getting all the newborn testing out of the way.  Mr. Wyatt passed his hearing and jaundice testing and just enjoyed being held by his mommy and daddy.  Little Guy spent the day with Gigi and Papa, playing with his new big brother toy (a multiple story racetrack) and enjoying the individual attention.  There has been such a remarkable difference with my pain and immediate recovery and I am feeling really great (although I hate to say that out loud!).  I am still very vocal about staying on my pain killer regiment, wanting to keep any and all pain at bay, but I am up and about, and looking forward to snuggle both my boys together.  Today we had visits from Great Grandma & Grandpa, Great Uncle Brian, Auntie, Mark, Peyton, and all the grandparents!

Happy Birthday Wyatt Clark DeTar

Our littlest family member has arrived!  It was an amazing, although slightly dramatic, experience that I am still a little in awe of.  We started our Monday (July 1st) with a trip to train town with Gigi, Auntie Cari, Jack-Jack, Madison, and Jack.  I knew I was feeling contractions here and there before we left, but I didn't think anything of it since I was still six days away from my due date. The contractions were strong enough to stop me in my tracks at train town, but nothing I couldn't breath through while riding the Ferris wheel :)  We hit up lunch afterwards and then I drove myself home.  My mom kept asking me if I was sure I didn't need to go to the doctor's office and I just knew I wasn't in labor (ha ha) so I sent her on her way.  I decided after naps to time the contractions just to prove to myself that I wasn't in labor...they were about eight minutes apart but not consistent, so I took a nap with Little Guy.  Daddy came home and we all went swimming before having BLTs for dinner.  We put Little Guy to bed and the contractions kept on coming.  We decided to call my mom just in case and she came over around 9PM.  By then, the contractions were closer together, but still manageable at home, so I kept laboring in our house, although at the time I think I was still in denial that I was actually in labor.  I called Labor and Delivery sometime around 11PM and they told me to come in if I thought they were getting more intense or closer together.  At that point, I decided we had to go to the doctor's and we had to go NOW.  Gabe wanted to shave ( I shot that idea down!) and take some home video of me working through a few contractions on our bathroom floor...once we got the car packed, we realized I had misplaced my keys and I was out of gas...so we unpacked the car and loaded up in Gabe's truck!  We made it to the hospital, not without me coercing Gabe to run a red light and Gabe driving through the ENTIRE section of handicapped parking and 3-point parking the truck before we started the trek to the second floor L&D.  I can't figure out why they put L&D so far from the parking lot!  We had to buzz security to let us in and of course I had a contraction right when they opened the doors.  When we finally checked in at 12:30 AM on July 2, 2013, I was in awe of the young woman behind me who appeared to be checking in to a spa, not about to give birth- I was hunched over the counter attempting to not strangle the receptionist who was asking me WAY too many not important questions and requesting a urine sample...I am not sure if they weren't hearing me, I AM IN LABOR, I am not in any shape to do a urine sample!!!  My goal was to arrive at the hospital dilated past a 4...and guess what, I was a SEVEN!  This ended up being a curse, as I later informed my sister, I should have come in at a one.  I was checked in and promptly requested my epidural.  And then I waited...and waited....and waited...and while I waited, I screamed, cried, yelled, begged, and pleaded for my epidural!  Well, other emergencies on the floor complicated matters and I never got that epidural.  My sister told me she knew right away when she walked in and knew how far along I was and still without drugs that I wasn't getting them- however, she kept telling me she was sure they were on their way.  I am pretty sure our nurse Mel wanted to kill me, I know Gabe and Katie could have killed me, and honestly, I could have killed myself I was in so much pain.  I kept refusing a check from the nurse, afraid she would tell me I was at a 10 and ready to push...finally I couldn't hold her off, and sure enough, I was a 10 and ready to push without drugs....I think I may have gotten three good pushes for every ten counts from Katie and Gabe, and after a few minutes, my water broke, shooting straight across the room (missing Katie by inches).  From that point it was on, its head was out and I felt like my body was being tortured beyond anything I was capable of handling.  I may have requested to be put under and the baby cut out, but thank goodness the good doctors, nurses, and coaches have their wits about them and deny ridiculous requests from the crazy pregnant ladies!  Gabe and Katie were cheering me on through every contraction, assuring me they could see a head and I was so close to meeting my sweet little baby.  With one more good round of pushing, Baby Wyatt was born, straight into the hands of his Daddy and Auntie with no doctor in sight.  Dr. Clause came in about 5 minutes after he was born ready to facilitate everything that comes post birth.  That final push was the most glorious feeling- I felt like a cloud had been lifted, the lights brightened, and I was ready to party.  I immediately apologized for my outlandish behavior and requested to see my sweet baby.  It was a stark difference from Wesley's birth when I was too exhausted to even sit up after he was born- this time around I was ready to nurse my sweet newborn from the first second he was here and I couldn't believe we had made it through the this whole ordeal drug free.  As soon as he was born, Gabe told me "I was right, I knew it, it's a boy!  His BS is huge...." and I couldn't believe that Little Guy was going to have a little brother to run and play with.  I was so nervous my whole pregnancy that it would be impossible to love another baby as much as I love Little Guy and just like my mom said, it is possible and I feel so blessed to be a mother to the two most precious baby boys I have ever held in my arms.

Mr. Wyatt Clark DeTar was born on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 2:57AM.  Weighing 7 pounds 13 ounces and 20.5 inches long, he is just a perfect peanut!!

Train Town

If I am being honest, I am writing this post two months late...I haven't had a minute to sit down and recap the day leading up to Mr. Wyatt Bear's birth until now!  But, without further ado, here it is:
We decided to hit up train town with Auntie Cari, Madison, Jack, and Jackson.  Auntie Cari was watching Jackson for a few days while his mommy and daddy went to Aruba!  We had planned on doing something fun and when the weather was slated to be 100 degrees plus, we decided an early morning trip to Train Town was just what we needed.  I had asked Gigi a few weeks earlier to go with us since I knew I would be tired and need some help getting Little Guy on and off the train.  As soon as we all met up in Fairfield, I was met with a chorus of "Oh my gosh, you've dropped!"  I had just seen my mom 15 hours earlier for a Sunday night BBQ and she was shocked at how different I looked.  I felt different too- I almost felt not as pregnant if that's possible, the weight had shifted and while I was still very uncomfortable, I wasn't feeling as heavy.  I was also pretty sure I was having contractions but for some reason I was in denial that I could be having this baby early. Train Town was a blast.  Little Guy loved the train and playing with his buddies.  I had to take frequent breaks when a contraction would come, but I was able to breath through it and keep going...  Here are pictures from our last outing before we were to meet Mr. Wyatt Bear!
